Agra, April 24 -- A building that housed a branch of Canara Bank in Jeoni Mandi area of Agra city collapsed at about 2.30 pm on Thursday. Because it was lunchtime, most staff were out of the bank premises. Construction work was underway for a basement in the building next to the rented premises occupied by Canara Bank. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Chhatta Circle) Shesh Mani Upadhayay informed that the building collapsed at 2.30 pm. It was single storey premises rented to the Bank having its Jeoni Mandi branch here. 'Digging work was underway in the adjoining upcoming building. Force from nearby police stations reached the spot and rescue teams were called in. There is no loss to human life as none was reported to be trapped in debris that fell,' stated ACP Chhata SM Upadhayay....
