Builder murder case accused killed in police encounter in Lucknow
Lucknow, June 28 -- Sanjay alias Sanjeev, an alleged sharpshooter wanted in the murder of prominent builder Sandeep Singh and carrying a reward of Rs.1 lakh, was killed in a police encounter in Lucknow on Saturday, STF officials said.
According to the police, Sanjay, a resident of Chak Kodar village under Ahirauli police station in Ambedkar Nagar district, was the main accused in the sensational murder of builder Sandeep Singh in the PGI area on May 27 this year.
Police described him as a dreaded criminal allegedly involved in several sensational murder cases across Ambedkar Nagar, Basti and Ayodhya districts. Investigators also claimed he had links with the gangs of notorious criminals Dilip Verma and Khan Mubarak.
Earlier, the Lucknow police commissioner had announced a cash reward of Rs.1 lakh for information leading to his arrest.
According to officials, the encounter took place on early Saturday morning on Indira Canal Road during an operation led by additional superintendent of police Deepak Kumar Singh. When the police team intercepted the accused, an exchange of fire ensued, during which Sanjay sustained bullet injuries.
He was rushed to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences for treatment, where doctors declared him dead. Police said further legal formalities are underway....
