Brother, sister swept away in stream while bathing on Nag Panchami
PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 18 -- A seven-year-old boy and his 13-year-old sister were swept away by a strong current while bathing in a stream in Darra Gadi village under Udaipur police station area on Monday morning. Despite an extensive search by villagers and local divers, neither child had been traced till late evening.
At around 9 am, Ram ,7, son of Arvind Singh alias Kallu, went to bathe with his sister Mahak ,13, and their cousins Pari ,13, Rudra ,9, and Pradumn ,6, children of their uncle Lallu. By then, most women had left the riverbank.
Ram reportedly slipped while bathing and was swept into deeper water.
As he struggled in the strong current, Mahak jumped in to save him. She was also caught in the current and disappeared.
Hundreds of villagers gathered at the ghat as teams searched nearly a one-kilometre stretch downstream from where the children went missing.
However, no trace of them was found by evening. Station officer Deep Narayan said the state disaster response force (SDRF) had been called from Prayagraj to assist in the operation. The search is expected to intensify after the team reaches the spot....
