LUCKNOW, Oct. 15 -- Uttar Pradesh produced a commanding all-round performance to defeat Chandigarh by nine wickets to reach top of the points table with 12 points in the Elite Group B of the Women's U19 T20 Trophy, at the Sachin Tendulkar Gymkhana, Kandivali in Mumbai on Wednesday. After restricting Chandigarh to 79/9 in 20 overs, Uttar Pradesh chased down the target in only 12.5 overs, finishing at 80/1. The foundation of Uttar Pradesh's victory was a disciplined bowling effort. Five of their six bowlers took wickets, and the attack conceded runs at under four an over throughout. Bharati Singh led the way with 2/11, including a maiden, at an economy rate of just 2.75. She removed opener Aayu Bansal and Jasmeet Baidwan in the early overs, preventing Chandigarh from building momentum after a promising start. Arisha Mustafa was equally effective, returning 2/12. She dismissed Smayra Thakur and Annvi Rana at crucial stages, while Siddhi Mishra claimed 2/17, removing Jais and Hitanshi. Katyayani Pathak also picked up 2/16, trapping Nitika Ahlawat leg-before and having Bhavya Sharma caught. Chandigarh had begun positively through Aayu Bansal, who made 19 from 16 balls, but her dismissal at 26 for 1 triggered a collapse. From 26/0, Chandigarh lost wickets at regular intervals and slipped to 39/5 by the half-way mark. The middle order could not recover, with only Bhavya Sharma reaching double figures again, making 11. Uttar Pradesh's chase was serene. Riya Bhati struck an unbeaten 55 from 45 deliveries, hitting 10 fours, to guide her side home. Vanshika S Saini fell early for one, but Shubh Choudhary joined Bhati and remained unbeaten on 20 from 27 balls. The pair added an unbroken 61-run stand as Uttar Pradesh completed the chase with 43 balls to spare. A sparkling half-century by Yuvraj and a five-wicket haul by Krishna Yadav helped former champions Uttar Pradesh beat Haryana by 26 runs in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy Elite Group match, at the CAP Ground 2, Puducherry, on Wednesday. Uttar Pradesh posted 241/8 in 45 overs, then bowled Haryana out for 215 in 40.2 overs. UP recovered strongly after slipping to 17/3. Wicketkeeper-batter Yuvraj made 73 from 42 balls, striking six fours and three sixes, while Bhavi Sharma added 61 from 62 deliveries. Their middle-order hitting lifted the innings after Yash Vyas' 31-ball 30. In reply, Haryana's chase was built around Arjun Veer Singh's explosive 87 from 54 balls, which included seven fours and seven sixes. Aditya Sanjay Bhardwaj made 53 from 36 balls, and Gorish Dahiya hit a quick 23, but the side kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Krishna Yadav dismantled the lower and middle order with 5/29 in 7.2 overs. Shantanu Singh and Pawan Singh claimed two wickets each. Hosts Uttar Pradesh scored 245/6 on the penultimate day of their Under-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy Elite match against Maharashtra, at the Victoria Park Ground in Meerut on Wednesday, still trailing by 127 runs after Maharashtra's first-innings total of 372. UP's reply began shakily as Swastik Chikara fell for six and Adarsh Singh for four, leaving the side struggling at 18/2. Kavya Teotia steadied the innings with a patient 33 off 65 balls, but the key resistance came from Manav Sindhu, who compiled a composed 83 from 120 deliveries with eleven boundaries. Skipper Sameer Rizvi made a quick 16, while Mohd Amaan added 31. Wicket-keeper Kaartikaya Singh contributed 33, and Akshu Bajwa's unbeaten 32 helped UP reduce the deficit through the evening session. At stumps, Bajwa was batting at 32, with UP 245/6 after 85 overs at a run rate of 2.88. Maharashtra's bowlers maintained tight control, led by Rushikesh, who took 2/26. Prathamesh Gawade, Kiran Chormale and Swaraj Chavan claimed one wicket each, while Shubham Maid bowled 26 economical overs for 45 runs without success. With four wickets in hand and 127 runs still required to avoid follow-on pressure, UP will need Bajwa and the lower order to bat deep on the final day on Thursday....
