Bose forced to resign as Governor: Mamata
Kolkata, March 8 -- West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday alleged that CV Ananda Bose was "threatened" and forced to resign as the governor of West Bengal, even as she described incoming governor RN Ravi as a cadre of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Banerjee also continued her attack against the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state, saying the deletion of voters during the exercise is aimed at "dividing the state".
"Did you see how CV Ananda Bose was removed from the governor's post? I know why he was removed. He was threatened. The intention is to turn the Raj Bhavan into a BJP party office from where money can be distributed," the CM said while addressing a gathering at the site of her dharna against the SIR in Kolkata.
The CM also took a swipe at incoming West Bengal governor RN Ravi's tenure in Tamil Nadu, saying he "had to face many remarks from the Supreme Court". "The person who is coming to Bengal now, I heard that he had to face many remarks from the Supreme Court during his tenure in Tamil Nadu. He doesn't do anything other than favouring BJP. He is a BJP cadre who has been turned into a parrot," she said.
Speaking about the SIR exercise, the CM said:"Their (Election Commission and BJP) intent is to divide Bengal. The BJP is planning to take away votes by dividing Bengal and turn parts of the state into a Union territory. They (BJP leaders) are subjecting Bengali-speaking people to harassment in other states and are conspiring to deprive Bengalis of their voting rights."
Banerjee called for women to hit the streets on the occasion of International Women's Day on Sunday to protest against the deletion of women's names from the voters' list.
Reacting to her comments, BJP leader Rahul Sinha told the media, "The SIR has shaken the ground beneath Mamata Banerjee and her party. She knows very well she won't be able to win this time. She is scared and hence making such statements"....
