LUCKNOW, March 26 -- The body of a 26-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh, who was killed in a suspected missile attack in Saudi Arabia's capital Riyadh earlier this month, was brought to his native village in Sitapur on Wednesday, officials and family members said. Ravi Gopal, a resident of Baghain village under Mahmudabad police station limits, had been working as a driver at a plastic factory in Riyadh since September 2025. He died on the night of March 18 in what his family described as a missile strike near his workplace. His elder brother, Manmohan Dayal, said the mortal remains were handed over to the family in Lucknow on Wednesday morning with assistance from the local administration. "The body was received around 9.30 am. We are taking it to our village by ambulance and expect to reach there by noon," he said, adding that the cremation would be conducted later in the day with preparations already underway. According to the family, a Naib Tehsildar from Mahmudabad was deputed to facilitate the transportation and other formalities, and accompanied the convoy to the village. Family members said they had earlier been informed by embassy officials and the district administration that the body would be flown from Riyadh to Lucknow. The repatriation was completed on Wednesday morning. Relatives claimed that Ravi died after being trapped under debris following the strike near the factory premises. He was reportedly rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead. The Ministry of External Affairs had earlier confirmed receiving information on March 18 regarding the death of an Indian national in Riyadh and expressed condolences to the bereaved family. The Indian Mission in Riyadh coordinated with Saudi authorities to facilitate the return of the body. Ravi, the sole earning member of his family, is survived by his wife and a four-year-old son.
