PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 23 -- A 52-year-old head constable allegedly died by suicide at his home in a village under Tharwai police station limits in the trans-Ganga region of Prayagraj late on Monday night. The deceased was found hanging from a ceiling fan with a towel inside his room on Tuesday morning, triggering panic and grief among his family members. The victim was posted as a head constable at a police station in Fatehpur district. During police questioning, his family members said he had been staying at home for around a month. According to them, he left home on Monday evening, saying he was going to report for duty, but returned later that night and went to his room to sleep. On Tuesday morning, his wife went to call him and found him hanging inside the room. Her cries alerted other family members and nearby residents, who gathered at the house. During preliminary investigations, police learnt that the head constable had been placed on line duty (attached to police lines) for remaining absent from duty repeatedly. However, police have not yet established whether this had any connection with his death. SHO Pankaj Singh said that further information is being gathered from the Fatehpur police administration as part of the investigation. A constable posted with the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Kanpur died after being hit by a train on the Delhi-Howrah railway line in Prayagraj's Karachhana police station area on Tuesday morning. Police reached the spot after receiving the information and identified the deceased as Ravi Patel (30), son of Jai Bahadur and a resident of Kaithi village, identity card found on him. He had joined the police department as a constable in 2016 and was posted with the GRP in Kanpur. According to his family members, Ravi left home on his motorcycle around 9am on Tuesday without informing anyone. Around 11am, they were informed that he had died after being hit by a train on the railway line.
