BKU-Tikait calls Mahapanchayat in Haridwar
Haridwar, July 10 -- The Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU-Tikait) has announced a Kisan Mahapanchayat at Shyampur Kangri in Haridwar district on July 20 to deliberate on issues concerning farmers. The event, to be held during the Harela festival week, will also promote afforestation and environmental conservation in view of the growing impact of climate change on agriculture and livelihoods.
BKU (Tikait) district president Vijay Shastri said farmers from the Kumaon, Garhwal regions, and neighbouring areas of Uttar Pradesh, are expected to attend.
According to Shastri, the mahapanchayat will take up rehabilitation of Van Gujjars, waiver of electricity charges for agricultural irrigation, an increase in the minimum support price for sugarcane, timely payments by sugar mills, subsidised fertilisers and urea....
