BKU leader, others booked for confronting officials during sealing op
PRAYAGRAJ, July 12 -- A case has been registered against three named persons, including Bharatiya Kisan Union (Tikait faction) state youth president Anuj Singh, along with around 100 unidentified people, for allegedly confronting officials of the Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) during a sealing drive at the Amrit Vatika marriage lawn in the city's Jhalwa area.
According to the complaint lodged by PDA supervisor Vishal Kumar Bhartiya at Dhumanganj police station, he, along with zonal officer Suraj Patel, junior engineer Vinod Gupta and other members of the PDA team, reached Amrit Vatika in Mayur Vihar Colony around noon to execute a sealing order.
The complainant stated that show-cause notices regarding a marriage lawn were issued on June 25, 2022, and July 16, 2022, under section 27(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Urban Planning and Development Act, 1973. The notices were served on landowner Lalchandra Patel and the lawn's operator, Anuj Singh. As no reply was received within the stipulated time, the PDA subsequently issued a sealing order, he said.
Bhartiya told police that shortly after the sealing process began, Lalchandra Patel, Anuj Singh, Mukund Yadav and a large number of people reached the site and opposed the action. The PDA team alleged that the crowd stopped the sealing operation, obstructed government work, engaged in scuffles with officials and used caste-based abusive language.
The complaint further alleged that officials were threatened with death during the protest.
Following the incident, the supervisor filed a formal complaint at Dhumanganj police station, where an FIR was registered later in the evening.
Dhumanganj SHO Dhananjay Pandey said an investigation has been initiated and further action will be taken after examining video footage from the site, statements of officials and staff present during the incident, and other available evidence.
The FIR names Anuj Singh, operator of Amrit Vatika and state youth president of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Tikait faction), landowner Lalchandra Patel, Mukund Yadav and about 100 unidentified persons. Police said further legal action would be based on the findings of the investigation.
