LUCKNOW, Sept. 21 -- The Uttar Pradesh Congress on Sunday alleged that the state BJP government is spoiling the future of Dalit students in the state. Addressing a press conference, UP Congress in-charge Rajendra Pal Gautam said, "Four government medical colleges in Saharanpur, Ambedkarnagar, Kannauj, and Jalaun, were made under Special Component Plan (SCP) designated for the welfare of Scheduled Castes with a total of 200 seats, and with 70 percent seats reserved for students from the Dalit community." He further mentioned that a private petition was filed, and in 2025, the state law officer did not present the government's stance in a procedural manner before the high court. Consequently, the high court ordered the scrapping of the policy provisions, even though the matter was still pending before a division bench." "As a result, the admission rate for Dalit students in these medical colleges dropped from 70 percent to 21 percent, and they were deprived of all the benefits they were entitled to under the Special Component Plan," said Gautam addressing a press conference with party's media cell chairman KS Nishad and vice chairperson media cell Priyanka Gupta. "The Congress demands chief minister Yogi Adityanath should come forward and clarify whether he is opposed to the Dalit community as BJP policies have consistently aimed to suppress the rights of the marginalized," said Gautam. Gautam said that the Congress will take legal action against the BJP and also make the public aware about how BJP is depriving them of their rights under a campaign.
