BJP seeks removal of fake, duplicate voters from graduates' constituency
PRAYAGRAJ, Oct. 22 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has written to the chief electoral officer (CEO), Uttar Pradesh, seeking the removal of alleged bogus and duplicate entries from the electoral roll of the Allahabad-Jhansi Graduates' Constituency ahead of polling on October 23.
In a memorandum submitted to the CEO, Akhilesh Kumar Awasthi, the BJP state convener of the election commission contact department, alleged that a large number of ineligible and duplicate voters have been included in the electoral roll published for the constituency.
Awasthi claimed that some influential leaders have managed to get the same individuals registered multiple times. The party has specifically demanded the deletion of all allegedly fraudulent entries, including voters whose dates of birth are recorded after 2002. In its complaint, the BJP claimed that the electoral roll contains 4,397 duplicate voter entries across the constituency. Prayagraj accounts for the highest number of duplicate registrations at 3,163, followed by Kaushambi (320), Jalaun (179), Jhansi (178), Banda (140), Fatehpur (139), Lalitpur (109), Hamirpur (81), Chitrakoot (68) and Mahoba (20). The party has called for immediate verification and deletion of these entries to ensure free and fair polling....
