BJP names Dinesh Arya as Rajya Sabha candidate from u'khand
Dehradun, Oct. 5 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday named Dinesh Arya as its candidate for the Rajya Sabha seat from Uttarakhand.
The term of incumbent Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Bansal is scheduled to end November 25.
Biennial elections to 11 Rajya Sabha seats, including 10 in Uttar Pradesh and one in Uttarakhand, along with a bypoll in West Bengal, are scheduled for October 16. The last date for filing nominations is October 6.
Arya currently serves as vice-chairperson of the State Drinking Water Monitoring Committee.
He has also served as Nainital district president of the BJP.
By fielding Arya, the BJP has sought to reach out to the Dalit community ahead of the assembly election.
The Uttarakhand BJP core committee deliberated on around two dozen names for the Rajya Sabha nomination in a meeting on September 25. A smaller panel was subsequently finalised by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, state BJP president Mahendra Bhatt and state general secretary (organisation) Phanindra Nath Sharma and sent to the party's central leadership for a final decision....
