BJP misleading public onwomen's quota: Akhilesh
Lucknow, April 23 -- Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday said the Bharatiya Janata Party was deliberately misleading the public on key issues, including women's reservation.
He was addressing a meeting of former candidates and leaders from constituencies reserved for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes at the Samajwadi Party's state headquarters here.
Yadav claimed that the BJP treats SP workers as enemies.
Accusing the ruling party of operating like an 'organised gang', he said, "The BJP's primary agenda is to spread hatred and create rifts within society."
He alleged that the BJP is "deceiving the democratic process" by spreading confusion around the Women's Reservation Act, which Parliament passed unanimously in 2023 and has now come into force.
He said the ruling party feels intimidated by the growing unity of the PDA (Pichhda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak - Backward Classes, Dalits, and Minorities) and is using diversionary tactics to distract from pressing issues such as corruption, inflation, and unemployment.
The SP national president warned party leaders against complacency and urged them to begin preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, focusing strongly on booth-level organisation.
He accused the BJP of tampering with democratic norms during the 2022 elections and called upon SP cadres to safeguard democracy and restore the dignity of the people. He added that under a future Samajwadi Party government, justice would be delivered to all sections of society based on the principles of social justice....
