BJP, RSS, VHP exploited religious sentiments of devotees, says Akhilesh
LUCKNOW, July 16 -- Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) of exploiting the religious sentiments of devotees in the wake of the alleged Ram temple donation theft.

He described it as a "well-planned scheme" executed through a trust to siphon off funds, with the proceeds allegedly shared among leaders of the BJP, the RSS and the VHP.
The SP chief said the irregularities coming into the public domain had panicked the BJP, prompting it to issue "childish statements" to divert public attention. "The BJP has lost its soul and its leaders' true colours will be exposed soon," he said.
Yadav also accused the BJP government of corruption and administrative failure, alleging that it had turned Uttar Pradesh into a "backward Bimaru" state.
He claimed that several flagship development schemes of the BJP government had been marred by large-scale corruption and said that while the government heavily publicised its expressway projects, basic road infrastructure continued to deteriorate. He further accused the BJP's "double-engine" government of failing on multiple fronts.
"Farmers are facing acute distress due to delays in the supply of fertilisers, seeds and pesticides, and are unable to recover their input costs. Incidents of crime against women are rising, and the government is shielding capitalists while the poor continue to suffer," Yadav alleged.Dismissing the BJP's development narrative as "rhetoric", he said the people of Uttar Pradesh were determined to bring the Samajwadi Party back to power in the 2027 assembly elections....
