Billing dispute puts power supply of 400 families at risk
Lucknow, July 8 -- A billing dispute triggered by an alleged error on the part of LESA has left nearly 400 families in an Omaxe residential complex in Lucknow facing the threat of electricity disconnection.
According to a notice issued by the executive engineer of LESA's Raj Bhavan division, the electricity connection (No. 8880883482) at Omaxe City, Ahimamau was fitted with a meter on March 16, 2024, carrying a multiplication factor (MF) of 5. However, the billing system allegedly recorded the meter factor as 1, resulting in 2,79,692 kWh of electricity consumption going unbilled.
Following an audit, LESA has assessed the unpaid amount at Rs.18.5 lakh and directed the consumer to clear the dues within 15 days. Residents and consumer representatives argue that the discrepancy arose due to a departmental billing error and not because of power theft or meter tampering. They allege that despite repeated requests to allow payment in installments, LESA has begun sending teams to disconnect the electricity supply.
