LUCKNOW, Aug. 30 -- A team of doctors at King George's Medical University's (KGMU) department of paediatric surgery successfully performed a robotic surgery on a five-year-old boy from Sitapur suffering from a congenital bile duct disorder called choledochal cyst. The child had been experiencing abdominal pain and vomiting since the age of one. After consultations with several doctors, his family approached Prof Archika Gupta at KGMU where detailed clinical and radiological evaluation confirmed the condition, stated a press release shared with the media on Saturday. Prof Gupta and her team removed the abnormal bile duct and reconstructed the bile drainage pathway into the intestine through four keyhole incisions. The procedure was completed without complications, with the child experiencing minimal postoperative pain, tolerating feeds early and being discharged after a short hospital stay, it stated. Prof Gupta said robotic surgery provided enhanced visualisation and precision, allowing the team to operate safely in the small operative field while minimising trauma to surrounding tissues. The surgical team included Prof Archika Gupta, Dr Piyush Kumar, Dr Manish Rajput, Dr Amol Agarwal and Dr Swapnil Singh.
