Bijnor DPRO caught taking Rs.20,000 bribe
LUCKNOW, April 9 -- The vigilance department on Wednesday arrested Bijnor District Panchayat Raj Officer (DPRO) Rizwan Ahmad for allegedly accepting Rs.20,000 bribe from a gram panchayat secretary in a trap laid at his office in the Vikas Bhavan complex. Vigilance officials said the DPRO had allegedly demanded Rs.50,000 from the secretary for work related to a village panchayat. Following the demand, the complainant approached the vigilance team, which laid a pre-planned trap based on the complaint.
According to officials, the secretary reached the DPRO's office on Wednesday afternoon and handed over Rs.20,000 as the first installment. As soon as the money was accepted, the vigilance team, stationed nearby, entered the office and caught the officer red-handed. The team questioned the officer on the spot for several hours and examined relevant documents and other evidence from the office.
The operation caused considerable activity inside the Vikas Bhavan premises, with staff members and officials gathering as the inquiry continued. After the preliminary questioning, the vigilance team took the DPRO to Bareilly for further legal proceedings....
