Haldwani, June 11 -- The Nainital district administration has prohibited the movement of general vehicles on the Bhowali-Kainchi Dham route on June 15 in view of the annual Kainchi Dham fair, with authorities putting in place an elaborate traffic, security and crowd-management plan for the event that is expected to draw thousands of devotees from across the country. Officials said emergency vehicles, including ambulances and fire tenders, will be exempted from the restrictions. Jagdish Chandra, superintendent of police (Traffic), Nainital, said all non-emergency vehicles would be barred from plying on the Bhowali-Kainchi Dham road on the day of the fair. "Shuttle services will be operated from Haldwani, Nainital and Bhimtal, with designated parking areas established for visitors. No vehicle parking or community feasts (bhandaras) will be permitted along the route," said Chandra. He added that the Forest Department would monitor the Shipra river and pedestrian routes, while CCTV cameras, barricades, help desks and fire brigade personnel would be deployed at strategic locations to ensure safety and smooth movement of pilgrims. According to Vivek Rai, additional district magistrate, Nainital, the annual fair is organised every year on June 15 to commemorate the establishment of Kainchi Dham by Baba Neem Karoli Maharaj on the banks of the Shipra river near Bhowali. "A large number of devotees from across the country are expected to participate in the event this year as well. The administration has finalised comprehensive arrangements in coordination with the police, health, fire and civic departments to ensure smooth conduct of the fair," said Rai. He said preparations related to traffic management, parking, shuttle services, sanitation, drinking water supply, electricity, medical facilities and security had been reviewed. Garbage collection vehicles will operate at least three times daily, while drinking water tankers will be stationed at multiple locations. "Three medical teams and two ambulances will remain on standby for devotees," he added. Arvind Pandey, regional transport officer (Enforcement), Nainital, said special shuttle services would operate on June 14 and 15 to facilitate the movement of pilgrims.
