Batters fail as Railways crush UP by an innings and 38 runs
LUCKNOW, Nov. 6 -- Uttar Pradesh's batting frailties were exposed once again as hosts Railways registered a comprehensive innings-and-38-run victory in their Under-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy Elite Group D match, at the Railway Cricket Ground at Rajkot on Thursday. Needing to bat out the final day after conceding a first-innings lead, UP folded for 151 in 43.4 overs, handing Railways an emphatic win with more than a day to spare.
Railways had piled up 368 in their first innings after UP managed only 179, building a lead of 189. Their innings was anchored by Abhishek Kaushal's patient 127 off 292 balls, an effort laced with ten boundaries. Sarvesh Rohilla made a brisk 51 from 58 deliveries, while Om Singh added 51 and Garv Sangwan contributed 34. Left-arm spinner Vipraj Nigam was UP's most successful bowler, claiming six for 144 from 52 overs, with Ayush Choudhary taking three for 66.
UP's second innings began poorly and never recovered. Openers Swastik Chikara and Kavya Teotia briefly offered resistance, adding 67 for the first wicket, but the innings unravelled dramatically once Arpit Yadav found his rhythm. Chikara top-scored with 50 off 88 balls, while Sameer Rizvi struck 31 from just 20 deliveries, but neither could convert their starts into a match-saving knock.
Arpit Yadav produced the decisive spell of the match, ripping through the UP line-up with nine for 55 from 17.4 overs at an economy of 3.11. He removed Chikara, Manav Sindhu, Rizvi, Deepak Rajput, Kaartikaya Singh, Vipraj Nigam, Aquib Khan and Ayush Choudhary, leaving the visitors in complete disarray. Virat Jaiswal chipped in with one for 18 as UP lost their last seven wickets for just 84 runs. From 117 for three, UP collapsed to 131 for eight, with three wickets falling without addition in the space of four balls. Vishal Nishad's late 14 off nine balls merely delayed the inevitable before he became Arpit's ninth victim, caught by Om Singh....
