Bareilly teen critically injured after kite string slits his neck
MEERUT, June 16 -- A 15-year-old boy, identified as Veer Singh Gangwar, was critically injured after a banned Chinese kite string (manjha) slashed his neck while he was riding a scooter on Bareilly's Shyamganj flyover on Monday.
According to officials and family members, Veer Singh, son of block pramukh Ajay Singh Gangwar and nephew of UP minister of state for sugarcane development Sanjay Gangwar, was travelling on his scooter when the kite string suddenly entangled around his neck. The impact caused him to lose control of the vehicle and fall on the flyover, leaving him seriously injured. Residents rushed to his aid and transported him to a private hospital, where he remains admitted in critical condition. Upon learning about the incident, sugarcane minister Sanjay Gangwar hurried to Bareilly from Pilibhit and visited the hospital to inquire about his nephew's condition.
Speaking to reporters, the minister expressed concern over the continued use of Chinese kite strings despite a government ban. "Chinese manjha has been completely prohibited, yet its use in the city continues. This is a serious matter," he said. Gangwar stated that he would discuss the issue with the district magistrate and the senior superintendent of police to ensure strict enforcement of the ban and prevent similar incidents in the future. SSP Anurag Arya also issued a video statement following the accident.
