LUCKNOW, Aug. 21 -- The Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Establishment's Bareilly sector arrested a senior assistant posted at the regional office of the Directorate of Secondary Education in Bareilly on Thursday for allegedly accepting a Rs.10,000 bribe from a complainant, vigilance officials said. The accused, identified as Mohammad Naved, a senior assistant posted in the regional office of the Directorate of Secondary Education in Bareilly, was allegedly demanding the money to facilitate correction of his mother's name in the Intermediate marksheet. According to the Vigilance Establishment, the complainant had alleged that Naved demanded Rs.10,000 to correct his mother's name in the marksheet from "Sunita" to "Unita" and make the required correction in the document. The complainant subsequently submitted a written complaint to the superintendent of police, Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Establishment, Bareilly sector. During a preliminary inquiry, the allegation was found to be substantiated, following which the Vigilance team laid a trap. The team caught Naved red-handed while allegedly accepting Rs.10,000 in Bareilly on August 20, 2026.
