VARANASI, June 10 -- A 21-year-old youth was taken into custody for allegedly spreading rumours by linking an unrelated video to the UP Police Recruitment Exam-2026, Azamgarh police said on Monday. Police said misleading information about the recruitment examination was circulated through the Instagram account - ashutoshmaurya9498, with a video that was later found to have no connection with any recruitment or competitive examination. Taking cognisance of the matter, the Azamgarh Cyber Cell conducted a fact-check and technical analysis. The probe found that the viral video dated back to April 17, 2026, and originated in Gautam Buddha Nagar district. According to police, the video had no link to the Police Constable Recruitment Exam-2026 conducted in Azamgarh or to any other recruitment examination. Based on digital tracing and technical analysis, the Cyber Cell identified the account operator as Ashutosh Kumar Maurya, 21, a resident of Gaurinarayanpur under Biliariaganj police station limits in Azamgarh. Police said a case has been registered at Kotwali police station under Section 353(2) of the BNS for statements conducing to public mischief and Section 66D of the IT Act.
