Ayodhya to host nat'l artists' camp on Saryu banks
LUCKNOW, June 12 -- In an effort to expand Ayodhya's identity beyond its spiritual significance, 10 artists from nine states will gather on the banks of the Saryu River for an All India Artists' Camp from June 15 to 19.
The camp is being organised by Kala Dirgha, International Journal of Visual Arts and JBNS Society Ayodhya. Organisers said the initiative aims to position Ayodhya as a centre for art.
They said while Varanasi is associated with music, Jaipur with literature, Santiniketan with creative thought and Kochi with contemporary art, Ayodhya too has the potential to emerge as a national cultural hub.
"The current phase of Ayodhya's renaissance should not be limited to roads and buildings alone," said Manjula Jhunjhunwala, patron of the camp.
Curator Awadhesh Misra described the gathering as "a bouquet of India's cultural fragrances. When artists from different regions look at Ayodhya, they notice details locals often miss. Art gives us new eyes for familiar places."...
