Atiq Ahmed's brother-in-law, three others booked under Gangsters Act
PRAYAGRAJ, Oct. 3 -- Kareli police booked four persons, including slain gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed's brother-in-law Mohammad Imran, under the Gangsters Act for their alleged involvement in land grabbing, extortion and other criminal activities. The other accused are Imran's brother Zeeshan alias Janu, Mohammad Kamran and Zahida Begum. All four reside in Kasari-Masari under Dhoomanganj police station limits.
Kareli station house officer Sachchidanand Singh lodged the FIR. Police alleged the group prepared forged documents to illegally occupy and sell government land, properties under ceiling orders or attachment proceedings, as well as land belonging to poor farmers.
The accused have been charged with threatening people and allegedly indulging in crimes including rioting, kidnapping, attempted murder, robbery and damage to public property.
Meanwhile, Puramufti police also registered three FIRs against five persons described as associates of slain gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed for allegedly fraudulently selling 1.164 hectares of land at Rasulpur Mariadih using forged land records.
The accused have been identified as Abu Tayyaba, Abdul Majid, Abu Laish, Ahmed Shad and Shahbaz. The cases were registered following complaints from three persons and on the directions of the police commissioner. Complainant Vivek Sinha of Mirapur Nehru Nagar alleged that he purchased a portion of the land through a sale deed on September 20, 2023, but his name was not entered in the khatauni despite repeated requests....
