Asvik, Siya win AITA Talent Series titles
LUCKNOW, April 18 -- Asvik Srivastava and Siya Singh won the boys and girls singles titles, respectively at the AITA Talent Series Under-12 Tournament, at the Vijayant Khand Stadium here on Friday.
Fourth seed Srivastava cruised past fifth seed Mohammad Hamdaan 6-1, 6-1, whereas Singh dismantled Aarika Raj Singh 6-0, 6-0. Whereas Srivastava's blistering serves and pinpoint groundstrokes overwhelmed Hamdaan, marking a strong statement in the competitive draw, Singh's relentless baseline play and unforced-error-free game left Aarika scrambling, securing a flawless title tilt for the UP prodigy.
The boys doubles final delivered the day's thriller as third seed duo of Arnav Srivastava pulled off a stunning upset against top-seeded duo Rudra Chaurasiya and Shivansh, prevailing 7-5, 6-2. Trailing early, Hamdaan and Arnav's synchronized volleys and net cord luck turned the tide, clinching the crown in a match that had spectators on edge.
The girls doubles final also went the distance, with third seeds Anya and Hiya Chauhan edging Siya Singh and Sanvi Jaiswal 6-1, 1-6, 10-4 in a super tiebreak. After splitting sets, Anya and Hiya's composure under pressure sealed a hard-fought victory.
In Prayagraj on Friday, Faiz Ali Kidwai and Purva Singh won the boys and girls singles titles, respectively at the AITA Championship Series Tournament, at the Gymkhana Tennis Academy.
Whereas Faiz defeated Abhyuday Singh 6-3, 6-0, Madhya Pradesh's .Purva defeated Manusmriti Singh 6-3, 6-4. In boys doubles, Uttar Pradesh pair of Rishant Jaiswal and Kinjal Srivastava defeated Abhyuday Singh and Rohin Raj 4-6, 6-2, 15-13. Purva won a golden double as she while pairing with Manusmriti Singh defeated Neeti Dubey and Tashi Kiran 6-4, 7-6 to win the girls doubles title.
The district boxing championship got off to a flying start on Friday as several emerging boxers including Amman, Harshit Singh, Shreyansh Singh, and Alankrita Singh proved their mettle in the ring, making it to the semi-finals, at the KD Singh 'Babu' Stadium here.
In the sub-junior boys 52 kg weight class, Ritesh Kumar of LPS Gomti Nagar defeated his schoolmate Om Singh. Yash Pandey of Modern Academy defeated Alok Kumar of Modern Academy. Nitigya of La Martiniere defeated Manik Bhatt of the KD Singh Babu Stadium, while Atharva Rai of TFC defeated Kushagra Yadav of CMS Station Road to advance to the semi-finals. In the 57 kg weight class, Amman of CMS Station Road delivered a spectacular performance, overpowering Anshuman of CMS Gomti Nagar with his powerful punches.
In the same weight category, Harshit Singh of Modern Academy defeated Kartikeya, Shashank of CMS Station Road defeated Akshat Singh of CMS Shalimar, and Shreyansh Singh of the KD Singh Babu Stadium defeated Adil.
Rahul of Irrigation Department defeated Shyam Ji of Punjab National Bank to clinch the men's singles title at the Inter-Office Carrom Tournament here on Friday. In the men's veterans singles (60+) final, Balram of Irrigation Department defeated Manoj Kumar of SBI.
The men's doubles title went to the duo of DV Singh and Shekhar Kumar of Postal Department as they defeated the pair of Danish Iqbal Siddiqui and Ravi Dhar of Irrigation Department. The Irrigation Department emerged victorious in the team championship....
