LUCKNOW, Aug. 4 -- The Uttar Pradesh assembly was adjourned for the day on Monday after members paid tribute to Samajwadi Party MLA Alam Badi, who died last month, and 21 former members. As the House assembled on the opening day of the Monsoon Session, chief minister Yogi Adityanath condoled the death of the legislator, who passed away on July 23. Alam Badi's public service showed that age does not matter if one remains dedicated to the people and the constituency, Adityanath said. Born on March 16, 1936 in Azamgarh district, Alam Badi was a five-time MLA from the Nizamabad constituency. He was first elected to the assembly in 1996 and subsequently re-elected in 2002, 2012, 2017 and 2022, all on the Samajwadi Party ticket. He had been unwell for a long time. Assembly speaker Satish Mahana said, "When I had called a meeting based on professional qualifications of the members and called engineers he was there. During the interaction, he told me that he did his engineering in 1962 and this meeting had reminded him that he was an engineer too." Congress Legislature Party leader Aradhna Mishra said, "The identity of Alam Badi was his simplicity despite being a five-time MLA." Leader of Opposition Mata Prasad Pandey shared memories of his meeting with Alam Badi during his illness. "When I told him in the hospital to let his son contest the election this time, he refused and said he would contest again as he still had that zeal and power to fight. That was my last meeting with him."...
