Prayagraj, Sept. 15 -- Cyber fraudsters allegedly duped an Army soldier from Pratapgarh, currently posted in Jammu and Kashmir, of Rs.18.86 lakh with promises of high, risk-free investment returns. According to police, the victim, Vikas Mishra of Umri Mishraan village under the Antu police station area, was contacted by phone. The caller, claiming to be the chief advisor of an international investment firm, persuaded Mishra to invest with assurances of substantial, risk-free returns. Police said Mishra initially deposited a small amount and was shown attractive returns to build confidence. Later told that a larger investment was required to withdraw profits, he transferred a total of Rs.18,86,027 to accounts provided by the fraudsters. After receiving the funds, the accused blocked all communication, preventing him from recovering his money. Following the incident, Mishra informed his family, and his father, Ganga Prasad Mishra, lodged a complaint at the cyber police station against unidentified persons.
