New Delhi, July 7 -- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday said that 10 officers at the rank of Lt Colonel, major and engineers are under the scanner for alleged misappropriation of funds of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) by hiring ghost casual workers in two crucial border road projects in Ladakh. The federal agency carried out raids at 26 locations across 11 states and Union territories on Monday. It has registered four first information reports (FIRs) in the matter. The states/UTs covered in the searches include Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Delhi, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland. "These (four) cases relate to irregularities in deployment of casual labourers and payments released in the name of fake casual labourers in the Project Vijayak and Yojak in the UT of Ladakh," said a CBI spokesperson in a statement. The cases, it said, have been filed on the complaints of the ministry of defence, based on an internal enquiry conducted by the Technical Board of Officers of BRO. "A total of 10 officers of the rank of Lt. Col., major and engineers along with certain private persons have been named in the FIRs," said the CBI spokesperson. A BRO spokesperson was not available for comment....
