PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 4 -- An Army officer posted in Prayagraj has allegedly been cheated of Rs 11.50 lakh after being lured into an investment scheme promising lucrative monthly returns. The Cantonment Police have registered an FIR against the accused and launched an investigation. According to the complaint, the victim, a resident of Officers' Colony on Hastings Road, was approached by Akash Kumar, a resident of Patna, who allegedly convinced him to invest Rs 11.50 lakh in November 2024. The accused reportedly promised a fixed monthly return of 10 percent on the investment. Police said the officer initially received the promised returns for the first two months. However, the payments reportedly stopped after January 2025. When the officer repeatedly sought clarification and later demanded the return of his principal amount, the accused allegedly avoided repayment. The complainant further alleged that when he asked for his money back in September 2025, Akash Kumar threatened to kill him and his family members. According to the complaint, several other Army officers were allegedly duped through the same scheme, with the total amount involved believed to exceed Rs 5 crore. Based on the complaint, Cantt Police have registered a case against the accused under relevant sections and begun gathering evidence.
