Armed gang holds Hapur industrialist family hostage; escapes with 1.25 kg gold and cash
Hapur, June 3 -- Four armed criminals allegedly stormed the residence of prominent Hapur industrialist and educationist Narendra Agrawal, held family members hostage at gunpoint, demanded a ransom of Rs.2 crore, and fled with approximately 1.25 kilograms of gold jewellery and cash worth several lakhs.
The incident occurred at the businessman's residence on Garh Road under the jurisdiction of Hapur Dehat police station late Monday night. The crime came to light on Tuesday morning, prompting senior police officials, including DIG Kalanidhi Naithani and superintendent of police Kunwar Gyananjay Singh, to visit the scene and review the investigation.
According to police and family members, 80-year-old Narendra Agrawal, a well-known real estate and timber businessman and founder of ATMS College, was at home with his wife Sushila Agrawal and household staff. Agrawal's son and daughter-in-law were reportedly in Delhi and were not present at the residence. His 17-year-old grandson, Siddhant Agrawal, a Class 12 student, had gone to visit a friend and returned home at around 11:45 pm.
As Siddhant entered the house, four armed men allegedly followed him inside. When he attempted to resist, a scuffle ensued. The assailants overpowered the teenager and reportedly pressed a country-made pistol against his temple.
The criminals then took the house guard, Shyam, at gunpoint and proceeded to the first floor, where they confronted Siddhant's grandmother, Sushila Agrawal. Narendra Agrawal was in the bathroom at the time. As soon as he emerged, the robbers allegedly took him to a separate room and demanded Rs.2 crore in cash.
When Agrawal informed them that such an amount was not available at the residence, the gang allegedly turned violent. Using torn bedsheets, they tied the hands and feet of family members and confined them to a room.
The victims remained hostage while the robbers spent nearly an hour searching the property.The gang allegedly ransacked cupboards, lockers, and other storage areas before making away with around 1.25 kilograms of gold jewellery and cash running into several lakhs of rupees. After executing the robbery, the accused fled the scene.
Senior police officers reached the residence soon after being informed and conducted a detailed inspection of the crime scene. Forensic evidence was collected, and investigators began examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the suspects and reconstruct their movements.
DIG Kalanidhi Naithani said police were investigating all possible angles and expressed confidence that the case would be solved soon. "Multiple teams have been formed, and efforts are underway to identify and arrest the accused at the earliest," the DIG said.
The robbery triggered outrage among local traders and industrialists. Members of the Joint Hapur Industry and Trade Association, led by its president Lalit Agrawal Chhavani, visited the Agrawal residence to express solidarity with the family....
