Aniruddh wins golden double in aita tourney
LUCKNOW, May 30 -- Aniruddh Kumar, a trainee at the La Martiniere Lawn Tennis Facility, on Friday won a golden double at the AITA CS-7 (Under-18) Boys' and Girls' Tennis Tournament, here. Aashi Shamsheri also from the same center earned the distinction of becoming the champion.
In the boys singles final, second-seeded Kumar pulled off an upset win by displaying a brilliant all-round game, defeating top-seeded Faiz Kidwai 6-2, 6-4 in straight sets. Kumar kept his opponent under constant pressure, executing precise groundstrokes and an aggressive return game.
Subsequently, an upset was also witnessed in the boys doubles final, where second-seeded pair of Aniruddh and Vanshraj Jalota demonstrated magnificent teamwork to defeat the top-seeded pair of Faiz Kidwai and Mehar Singh Khosla in a super tie-break, 7-5, 3-6, 10-8.
In the first set, Kumar and Vanshraj took the lead on the strength of their superior coordination and net play, while the opposing pair staged a comeback in the second set. In the decisive third set-a contest that stretched into a super tie-break-Anuruddh and Vanshraj secured the victory by displaying excellent court coverage and composed gameplay.
In the girls singles final, seventh-seeded Ashi won the title by defeating second-seeded Manusmriti Singh from Madhya Pradesh 6-1, 6-4. Ashi maintained a firm grip on the match right from the start....
