PRAYAGRAJ, Oct. 9 -- The Prayagraj vigilance team on Thursday arrested an Anganwadi worker while allegedly accepting Rs.15,000 as part of a bribe for securing the appointment of a woman as an Anganwadi helper in Kaushambi's Sirathu area, officials said. The accused, identified as Reena Devi, allegedly demanded Rs.35,000 from the woman in exchange for facilitating the appointment letter of her daughter as an Anganwadi helper. The vigilance team arrested her from the premises of the child development project officer (CDPO) office in Sirathu around 1.15pm, officials said. According to the vigilance department, the woman had lodged a complaint on October 7, alleging that her daughter had applied online for the Anganwadi helper post on December 9, 2025. Reena allegedly advised her to meet CDPO regarding the appointment. The complainant claimed to have met the CDPO at his office on October 3, following which he allegedly asked her to contact Reena regarding the appointment order. Reena subsequently demanded Rs.35,000, the complaint stated. When the woman told Reena that she could arrange only Rs.15,000 immediately, the latter allegedly agreed to accept the amount on October 8 and take the remaining money later. The complainant also contacted the CDPO, who allegedly told her to meet Reena before ending the call, according to the vigilance team. The woman subsequently approached the vigilance department, which laid a trap and arrested Reena while she was allegedly accepting Rs.15,000.
