Amid crackdown, LDA's own flats lack fire NoCs?
LUCKNOW, June 28 -- The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), which has intensified its crackdown on commercial and residential buildings violating fire safety norms after the Aliganj commercial complex fire, is facing questions over the condition of its own residential high-rise apartments.
Residents have alleged missing fire department no objection certificates (NoCs), incomplete fire-fighting infrastructure and non-functional safety equipment.
The issue came under scrutiny after the Sector-D, Aliganj tragedy that killed 15 people and injured nine others.
While the LDA has sealed several private properties for fire safety violations, residents of its own housing schemes alleged that hundreds of families continue to live in apartments without fully functional fire protection systems.
Residents of Smriti Apartment and Srishti Apartment in Jankipuram Extension alleged that fire safety installations remain incomplete despite the projects being occupied for years.
According to them, hydrants are not connected to water pipelines, alarm systems are non-functional and basement sprinkler systems have never been made operational.
The issue reached LDA vice chairman Prathamesh Kumar on Saturday after residents approached the LDA office. Kumar directed the concerned zonal executive engineer to complete all pending works within the stipulated time and issued a final warning, stating that negligence in matters related to residents' safety would not be tolerated. He also said strict action would be taken against officials if the deficiencies were not rectified.
Vikas Singh, a resident of Smriti Apartment, alleged that the decade-old housing scheme is yet to obtain a fire NOC. He claimed that the installed fire-fighting equipment remains incomplete as water connections have not been provided and alarm systems continue to remain defunct.
Singh also said the Residents' Welfare Association has not been constituted as several essential amenities remain incomplete.
Residents questioned why the LDA is sealing private properties for similar violations while its own housing projects continue to operate without fully functional fire safety systems.
They demanded that the authority first ensure compliance in its own residential complexes before taking action against others.
Similar concerns have surfaced at Srishti Apartment, which has eight residential blocks and around 520 flats. Resident Vivek Sharma alleged that the fire-fighting network remains incomplete, with hydrants yet to be connected to the water supply and basement sprinklers lying non-functional. He claimed the concerned department had issued notices regarding the deficiencies, but little has changed.
Sharma said LDA's repeated assurances yielded no improvement. Rapti Apartment residents alleged a faulty fire system, no fire NOC and unreleased repair report despite repairs....
