GORAKHPUR, Sept. 1 -- Amarmani Tripathi, the former UP minister who was convicted and handed a life term in the 2003 Madhumita Shukla murder case but was later set free in 2023 after remission of sentence on medical grounds, intends to test political waters and lay his family's claim on Maharajganj's Pharenda assembly seat in 2027. Speaking at a public interaction event in Maharajganj's Anandnagar on Sunday night, Tripathi referred to his uncle former minister Shyam Narayan Tripathi, who represented the Pharenda seat several times, and said the family had remained closely connected with the constituency for generations. "My uncle always emphasised maintaining contact with the people and continuing to serve the constituency," he said, asserting that his family would continue to remain among the people of the area. Tripathi also indicated that his son and former Nautanwa MLA Amanmani Tripathi would contest from the Nautanwa assembly constituency. He, however, did not disclose which political party he would seek a ticket from for his son. Referring to the participation of Gen Z at the programme, Tripathi said young people had the potential to bring about major social and political changes. He stressed the need for the youth to unite and raise issues such as unemployment. Amanmani appealed to people to support his father. Referring to the family's long political association with the region, he said, "Three generations of our family have served the people of the area."
