Aliganj fire tragedy: SIT gets 2-day extension to submit final report
Lucknow, July 2 -- The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the June 22 Aliganj fire tragedy has been granted a two-day extension to submit its final report, with officials saying the report is in the final stage of drafting.
The two-member SIT, headed by additional chief secretary Amrit Abhijat and additional director general of police (Lucknow Zone) Praveen Kumar, was originally asked by chief minister Yogi Adityanath to submit its findings within seven days. Sources said the extension will allow the panel to finalise its conclusions and recommendations.
The SIT has examined records of multiple departments, inspected the fire site and analysed forensic evidence. Investigators are expected to fix responsibility for alleged violations in building approvals, fire safety compliance, electrical installations and regulatory oversight that may have contributed to the blaze, which claimed 15 lives. The report is also likely to recommend criminal and departmental action against those found negligent, besides suggesting reforms to strengthen fire safety enforcement.
