Lucknow, Sept. 4 -- Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday predicted that Western Uttar Pradesh would deliver the most unexpected and damaging election results for the BJP and its allies in the 2027 assembly polls. Western Uttar Pradesh, comprising around 126 assembly seats across 24 districts, has been a critical battleground. In the 2017 UP assembly elections, the BJP swept approximately 100 of these seats (nearly 79 per cent). In the 2022 UP assembly elections, despite the farmers' agitation that particularly affected Jat-dominated areas such as Muzaffarnagar, Meerut and Shamli, the party still secured 85 seats (about 67% cent), while the SP-RLD alliance won 41. The region's politics has long been shaped by the interplay of Jat, Muslim, Dalit and other communities. "For the BJP and its collaborators, the most unexpected results in the 2027 elections will come from Western Uttar Pradesh," Yadav said in a statement issued on Thursday. The former chief minister said farmers, labourers, artisans, youth, women, sportspersons, artists, traders, exporters and industrialists would no longer be misled. The Samajwadi Party national president accused the BJP of systematically damaging the once-prosperous Western UP by fostering communal and caste divisions for political gain. He claimed the party had ruined agriculture, industry and the handicraft-export sector, stalled government job recruitments, neglected sports, undermined education, and allowed labour unrest to shut factories. Yadav claimed higher tariffs had hit farmers and factories hardest in places such as Moradabad, Aligarh, Saharanpur and Meerut. He also alleged conspiracies to close schools and Jauhar University....
