AIMIM flays SP over choice of candidate
Lucknow, Oct. 1 -- The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) strongly criticised the Samajwadi Party (SP) for nominating Dhanraj Parimal Nathwani, son of NDA-backed Independent Rajya Sabha MP Parimal Nathwani, as one of its candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections from Uttar Pradesh.
In a post on X, AIMIM spokesperson Shadab Chauhan alleged that the SP's strategy involves securing Muslim votes by raising fears of the BJP while allocating Upper House seats to individuals linked to the ruling party.
"SP's new slogan: Scare Muslims with the BJP to get votes and give Rajya Sabha seats to the family members of BJP MPs," Chauhan wrote.
The AIMIM spokesperson said the Samajwadi Party fielded Dhanraj Parimal Nathwani, a senior Reliance Industries executive, who is considered close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and industrialist Mukesh Ambani. He questioned, "So what is this relationship called? Is the deal linked all the way to the top?"
Highlighting the political implications for Muslims in Uttar Pradesh, Chauhan stated, "Uttar Pradesh is seeing how the BJP and Samajwadi Party together are making Muslims political untouchables. When atrocities are committed against Muslims, there is complete silence."
He further questioned, "Should Muslims vote for the SP against the BJP, only for the SP to send BJP people to the Rajya Sabha?"
Shadab Chauhan further alleged that the episode has exposed "the real team of the BJP and the real face of the SP" before the public.
The Samajwadi Party has named Nathwani alongside veteran leader Ram Gopal Yadav as its candidates for the Rajya Sabha polls from Uttar Pradesh, scheduled for October 16.
