Kanniyakumari/Thootukudi, April 21 -- Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday alleged that the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's leadership in Tamil Nadu has "surrendered" to the Bharatiya Janata Party. Addressing an election rally in Tamil Nadu, he said: "The AIADMK has had a great historical tradition. Like the Congress and the DMK, the AIADMK also had shown the way forward. It had in the past great leaders who protected the idea of Tamil Nadu. But the AIADMK of today is no longer that old party. Today it is a hollow shell as leaders of AIADMK are compromised," he said. Asserting that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Congress and their allies within the INDIA bloc were protecting Tamil language, culture and history, Gandhi said, "they (RSS) also know that Tamils could challenge them." People of each state should run their own state. But, the BJP does not think like this... it believes it is one tradition, one language and one history," he said. Gandhi said Tamil Nadu should be governed by its people and accused the BJP of "trying to weaken" states."BJP does not adhere to the Constitution... BJP wants to weaken the states." "Look what they have done to Manipur, a peaceful state. They set fire to it hundreds people died and the civil war is still carrying on," added Gandhi, referring to the ongoing Manipur conflict. Gandhi also addressed the recent debates on constitutional amendment bills in Parliament, reiterating accusations that the Centre's real intent was to change the electoral structure of the country. "There is only one way to describe what they were doing- as an anti-national action," he alleged, adding that the Opposition would "continue to defeat any bill that tries to take away representation of anybody in the country".
