AGRA, Aug. 25 -- An Agra-based chartered accountant was booked for allegedly facilitating illegal transfer of Rs 25 crore abroad to non-existent/fictitious/shell entities using forged tax certificates. The FIR was registered at Tajganj police station of Agra on Sunday after a complaint lodged by the deputy income tax director from the investigation unit of I-T department, said officials. The case was registered under Section 318(4) (cheating), 234 (issuing false certificate), 229 (perjury), 61(1) (criminal conspiracy), 336(3) (forgery), 340(2) (forgery of paper or digital record) and 3(5) (common intention) of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita against the accused Rehan Khan, a chartered accountant in Tajganj area of Agra city. DCP (city) for Agra Police Commissionerate, Syed Ali Abbas, stated that the FIR was registered on a complaint by I-T department officials and police will proceed in the matter based on evidences and facts coming across during the course of investigation. The case was an outcome of search and seizure action conducted on August 18 by the investigation unit of I-T department of Kanpur under Section 247(1) of the Income Tax Act, 2025, against Khan for allegedly facilitating fraudulent outward foreign remittances by issuing certification without due verification as required in law. According to the FIR, copy of which is with HT, during the search action conducted at the residential premises of Khan, it was found that he had issued certificates (Form15CB under IT Rules 1962) for remitting money outside India without proper verification, which included examining the agreement between remitter and the beneficiary, relevant documents, books of accounts required for ascertaining the nature of remittance and for determining the rate of deduction of tax at source. The IT department alleged that there was clear element of criminal conspiracy between the CA and remitter companies as they actively connived to siphon out huge funds under the garb of remittances.
