LUCKNOW, Aug. 10 -- A Lucknow court has sentenced six accused to life imprisonment in a kidnapping-for-ransom case registered in 2006, bringing a more than two-decade-old case to an end, police said. The case was registered at Ghazipur police station on January 4, 2006, after one Khalil Mukhtar Khan was allegedly kidnapped following a cheating incident, DCP (East) Deeksha Sharma said. During the investigation, police identified 11 accused. Of the 11 accused, two - Sunil alias Vicky and Bhanu Pratap - were killed in a police encounter in Chandauli district on January 30, 2006, police said. On August 7, the court of additional district and sessions judge-09 convicted Mohammad Ali, Asif Khan and Mohammad Jarrar under Section 364-A of the IPC, relating to kidnapping for ransom, and sentenced each of them to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs.50,000. They were also sentenced to five years in prison for cheating, police said. Three others - Premjeet Kumar alias Mintu, Sanjay Kumar and Ajay Prasad - were sentenced to life imprisonment under Section 368 of the IPC for harbouring the kidnapped person, Ghazipur SHO RK Maurya said.
