After Sangam, Mela authority plans Ganga Aarti at Kali Ghat
PRAYAGRAJ, June 5 -- Buoyed by the enthusiastic response to the recently launched Ganga Aarti at Sangam and VIP Ghat, the Prayagraj Mela authority is set to expand the initiative to Kali Ghat, bringing another prominent riverfront location into the city's growing spiritual tourism circuit.
Officials said preparations are underway to start regular Ganga Aarti at Kali Ghat later this week. The move will mark the first time that a formal and regular Aarti ceremony is organised at the historic ghat by any institution. The initiative is part of the Mela authority's broader efforts to promote religious tourism and enhance the spiritual experience along the Ganga riverfront.
The Sangam Aarti was inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on the occasion of Ganga Dussehra, following which authorities began identifying other ghats suitable for similar ceremonies.
According to officials, regular Aarti is already being conducted at VIP Ghat. Arail Ghat has been handed over to Parmarth Niketan for conducting religious activities, while preparations are underway to entrust Dashashwamedh Ghat to another organisation.
SDM (Mela) Vivek Shukla said the responsibility of conducting the Kali Ghat Aarti is being assigned to the Jai Triveni Jai Prayag organisation.
The administration believes that introducing a regular Aarti at Kali Ghat will not only strengthen the city's spiritual identity but also attract more devotees and tourists to the lesser-explored riverfront location.
Meanwhile, the Mela authority is also planning a series of beautification and tourism-oriented projects in the fair area. Mela officer Rishiraj said efforts have begun to lease additional land from the army and develop the area with uniform shopfronts and new selfie points to improve the visitor experience....
