After fire, parents seek safety assurances from coaching centres
LUCKNOW, June 24 -- The deadly Aliganj fire that claimed 15 lives has triggered concern among parents across Lucknow, prompting a surge in calls to coaching institutes seeking details about fire safety measures and emergency preparedness.
From Aliganj to Gomti Nagar, coaching centre staff said they spent much of Tuesday responding to queries about fire extinguishers, emergency exits, evacuation plans and building safety.
"Parents wanted clear answers about exit routes, staircases and ventilation. We had to explain the safety arrangements in detail," said Atul Kumar Rai, a staff member at a coaching centre in Gomti Nagar. Many parents also asked whether institutes conduct regular mock drills and have multiple escape routes in case of an emergency.
"After the incident, I called my child's coaching centre to ask about fire safety and exits. I wanted to be sure proper arrangements were in place," said Namita Singh, a resident of Indira Nagar.
Several institutes reported that parents not only called repeatedly but also visited centres to inspect facilities personally.
"They asked how students would be evacuated if smoke filled the building," said Riddhima Agrawal, a coaching institute employee in Aliganj....
