Advocate's house burgled, jewellery worth Rs 30L stolen
PRAYAGRAJ, June 29 -- A high court advocate's house in district's Dhoomanganj area was burgled while he and his family were away in Varanasi, with thieves making away with gold and silver jewellery worth around Rs 30 lakh and cash of Rs 1.5 lakh, police said.
According to the FIR lodged on Saturday, advocate Satyendra Pandey, a resident of Ganga Vihar Colony in Transport Nagar, had left for Varanasi with his family on the morning of June 20 to attend a family function. Before leaving, he locked the main gate and activated the central locking system of the house.
When the family returned at around 4pm on June 26, they noticed that a wall near the staircase had been damaged. On entering the house, they found that the door of a room and the lock of an almirah had been broken. A check of the valuables revealed that Rs 1.5 lakh in cash and jewellery worth nearly Rs 30 lakh were missing.
Pandey immediately informed the police through Dial-112. A team from Dhoomanganj police station reached the spot, inspected the house and collected evidence. Police are also examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the burglars.
Dhoomanganj SHO Dhananjay Pandey said an FIR has been registered against unidentified persons and efforts are underway to trace the accused on the basis of CCTV footage and other evidence.
In a similar incident, a theft was reported in the Puramufti area of Prayagraj. Ashish Verma, a resident of Vishnapuri Colony, told police that he had left for his office at Vikas Bhawan at around 9.15am on June 18. Since his wife was staying at her parental home, no one was present in the house.
When Verma returned at around 6 pm the same day, he found the house ransacked. The lock of an almirah had been broken and jewellery belonging to his wife had been stolen.
Puramufti police have registered an FIR and started an investigation into the case....
