Pithoragarh, Sept. 27 -- The administration has suspended the ongoing Adi Kailash yatra in Pithoragarh after heavy rain since Friday night led to road closures at six places on the Dharchula-Gunji road, officials said on Saturday. Yatra officer and Dharchula sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Ashish Joshi said no inner-line permits were issued on Saturday because the road to the higher reaches remained blocked at more than six locations. "Today, we have not issued any inner-line permits due to the closure of the road to the higher region at over six places. Inner-line permits will be issued tomorrow only if road and weather conditions improve," Joshi said. According to district disaster management officials, the Pithoragarh-Tanakpur National Highway 9, the main link road connecting the district with the plains, was also closed at Ghat bend due to continuous shooting of stones from above. "Besides this, a total of 11 motor roads, including eight village roads and two border roads, are closed in the district since last night," said Bhupendra Singh Mahar, district disaster management officer (DDMO), Pithoragarh. The DDMO said continuous and heavy rain had also resulted in increased water flow in the district's main rivers -Kali, Gori and Saryu. "We have sounded caution along their banks as some of these rivers are likely to reach the danger level," he said. Pithoragarh SDM Yogendra Singh said that keeping the continuous rain, thunderstorms and lightning in mind, he had addressed officials concerned in all subdivisions of the district through a video conference and instructed them to remain alert to any critical situation....
