Acting on violations, LMC imposes Rs 10 lakh fine on parking operator
LUCKNOW, March 28 -- : Acting on violations flagged during a joint inspection by mayor Sushma Kharkwal and municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar on March 24, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has imposed a Rs 10 lakh fine on a parking operator near KD Singh Babu Stadium. The move comes as part of a broader crackdown on mismanagement and misuse of public parking spaces in the state capital.
According to additional municipal commissioner Pankaj Srivastava, who oversees parking operations, the civic body penalised the agency after officials found multiple violations at the site.
"The operator failed to adhere to prescribed norms. Improper utilisation of space was found at the site along with lack of basic infrastructure," he said.
During the inspection, the mayor shared a video on social media highlighting illegal activities at the parking facility. The footage showed unauthorised vehicle garages being run within the premises, where vehicles were reportedly parked for sale.
Taking immediate action, the mayor and the municipal commissioner seized car keys and related items from the site and directed individuals to collect them from the LMC headquarters.
The action gains significance as a follow-up to an earlier report by Hindustan Times, which exposed persistent issues at the multi-level parking facility in Hazratganj.
Commuters had complained about dysfunctional lifts, poor maintenance, and garbage accumulation-issues that were again flagged during the March 24 inspection.
Officials confirmed that the Hazratganj parking facility remains under LMC supervision and is currently in the tendering phase. "The first round of bidding received only one applicant. We have floated a re-tender, with March 30 set as the deadline," Srivastava added.
The municipal commissioner clarified that the penalty at the KD Singh Babu Stadium site specifically addresses violations such as absence of entry-exit barriers, poor sanitation, and underutilisation of designated parking space.
With enforcement tightening and tenders underway, LMC officials say they aim to streamline parking management and improve commuter convenience across key city locations....
