Agra, Aug. 13 -- An accused, being brought from West Bengal by Delhi police on transit remand, attempted to escape from police custody by firing at the police party at the Yamuna Expressway, on Tuesday night. The police party returned the fire in which the man was injured and arrested. A Delhi police sub inspector was also injured in the exchange of fire. Deputy SP for Mant circle of Mathura district, Amarnath Yadav, said that the special team of North West Delhi police was on the Yamuna Expressway with accused Wasim Akram aka Lambo on transit remand from West Bengal. "At Milestone 64/65 of Yamuna Expressway within limits of Naujheel police station of Mathura, at about midnight, the accused expressed need to relieve himself, and while he was being taken, the accused snatched the service revolver of police head constable Harish and fired at Delhi police team, injuring sub-inspector Ajay Kumar in arm. "The Delhi police fired back in defence and accused Wasim Akram aka Lambo was injured and again arrested. He and the injured SI Ajay Kumar were taken to the nearby community health centre but were referred to a higher centre for treatment," the DSP said. Police from Naujheel police station of Mathura reached the spot and the field unit of police was informed. Head constable Nardi Ram from Delhi police moved a complaint on which a case was registered at Naujheel police station as crime case no. 238 of 2026 under section 221/309(4)/132/109(1)/317(2) of BNS beside Section 5/25/27 of Arms Act against accused Wasim Akram....
