Accused held after police encounter
VARANASI, April 6 -- Police arrested a murder accused after an encounter in Azamgarh on Sunday. The accused, Irfan, was held in the Damodarpur area under Mubarakpur police station limits. Police said Irfan opened fire while trying to escape, after which he was injured in the left leg. He was admitted to a hospital and is now out of danger. Officers recovered a country-made pistol, live cartridges, a knife, a mobile phone and a white-metal toe ring from his possession.
According to police, the incident took place on April 3 in Islampura village. Irfan allegedly attacked his neighbour, Mohd Hassan, with a knife during a dispute. Hassan later died during treatment. During questioning, Irfan confessed to the crime and said he had been changing hideouts to avoid arrest....
