Accused held, murder weapon recovered
LUCKNOW, May 30 -- Police have arrested a man for the sensational murder of an occult healer, popularly known as 'Paradeshi Baba', in Sitapur district, with investigators claiming the accused believed the victim had cast a spell on his mother with black magic and tantric practices.
Police officials said that the accused, identified as Nagendra, a resident of Naveen Nagar in Malihabad area of Lucknow district, was arrested near Malihabad railway station by Sandana police on Thursday. Police also recovered the knife allegedly used in the murder.
According to the police, the body of Satyanarayan Yadav alias Paradeshi Baba was recovered from a forested riverbank in Sandana police station area on May 13.
ASP Durgesh Singh said the accused told investigators during questioning that the occult healer had been treating his mother for nearly 17-18 years. Nagendra allegedly suspected that the victim had placed his mother under the influence of tantric rituals and black magic.
Police said the accused had an altercation with the victim a few months ago over the same issue and had been harbouring resentment since then.
According to investigators, Nagendra allegedly took the victim to the isolated forest area on the pretext of treating a woman and receiving money for the ritual. Once there, he allegedly slit the occult healer's throat with a knife. Police said the brutality did not end with the killing.
ASP Singh said the accused allegedly hammered 11 nails into the victim's hands and legs after the murder....
