ABVP gheraoes LU offices over result irregularities
LUCKNOW, Aug. 4 -- Hundreds of students affiliated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Lucknow University unit, staged a protest on the university campus on Monday, alleging irregularities in second-semester undergraduate results and internal assessment marks.
The ABVP claimed that administrative lapses led to discrepancies in internal marks, while several students who appeared for examinations were incorrectly marked absent. "This is directly affecting the academic future of students," the organisation said.
In the first phase of the protest, ABVP members gheraoed the administrative building and attempted to meet officials to submit their grievances, but were stopped by security personnel.
They then staged a dharna at the entrance, raised slogans against the administration and symbolically locked the building, demanding immediate correction of the results and action against those responsible.
Later, the students marched to the Economics Department and gheraoed the dead of the department's office. A delegation subsequently submitted a memorandum addressed to the vice-chancellor to the registrar, demanding a time-bound resolution for all affected students.
ABVP state minister Arpan Kushwaha said the recurring irregularities in Lucknow University's examination system were a matter of serious concern.
"We will not allow students' futures to be jeopardised. Our protest will continue until all the errors are rectified," he said....
