Aashi Shamsheri wins girls singles crown
LUCKNOW, Aug. 28 -- Top-seeded Aashi Shamsheri of Uttar Pradesh captured the girls' singles crown at the AITA Championship Series Under-16 tournament, at the La Martiniere's Lawn Tennis Facility here on Thursday.
In a convincing performance organized by SDS Tennis Academy, Aashi defeated second-seeded compatriot Anaya Sen 6-1, 6-3 to lift the winner's trophy. Aashi set the tone early, taking control with aggressive groundstrokes and consistent serving to run away with the first set.
Her powerful, clean hitting kept Anaya on the defensive and limited her opponent's rhythm. Although Anaya attempted to regroup in the second set and produced a few strong rallies, Aashi prevailed in the crucial moments, closing out the match with composure and tactical clarity.
In the boys' doubles final, second seeds Rohin Raj and Saatvik Gupta emerged champions after defeating top seeds Virat Singh and Rishant Jaiswal in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4. Rohin and Saatvik dominated the opening set, displaying sharp net play and well-timed returns that left their opponents scrambling.
The second set saw a more competitive contest as Virat and Rishant raised their level, but Rohin and Saatvik executed the big points when it mattered-converting break opportunities and holding serve under pressure-to secure the doubles trophy.
The tournament's boys' singles final is scheduled for Friday and features third-seeded Rohin Raj of Uttar Pradesh against Haris Khan. Having already claimed the doubles title, Rohin now has a chance to complete a notable double by adding the singles crown to his achievements. With momentum on his side from the doubles victory, he will enter the final with confidence as both players prepare for what promises to be an exciting conclusion to the Under-16 event....
